I bought this tool after struggling with a half inch Fid trying to do an eye splice with Vortex rope. The half inch fid barely got though the cover with enormous friction and no reasonable means of attaching the core to the fid survived the pulling. ...Read MoreRead more about I bought this tool after strugglingn the first try I wrapped the wire basket with clear tape to ease the friction after I seated the core about half way in to the basket. That worked. The second try was done with no covering on the wire basket. That worked and, as expected, with more friction. I did have to work jacket but in the end it worked well for this application. The wire basket held the Vortex core very securely. If anything, it may be a minor challenge to get the core out if you don't compress the basket enough and that can cause some fiber grabbing. The wire basket is apparently smooth enough that I did not notice any fibers being pulled from the adjacent core or jacket. Don't misinterpret here; You will have to work to get that core through.
